Shotblasting and Painting Services for Railways
Shotblasting and painting services
for the rail industry
is one of the areas of expertise within our specialist coatings division
. We have the experience and facilities at our depots to refurbish rolling stock for the transportation of passengers and goods. A recent project saw us stripping back and recoating a hopper for NACCO, the rail leasing company, returning it to full working order with protective coatings and a shiny new livery. Here is how we went about the process...
Before During and After Shotblasting and Painting Services
Arriving on a low loader the rusty rolling stock is unloaded, and the shotblasting and painting services work starts. We begin by removing the brake distributers, bogies, springs and then set up the hopper on painting jigs. It is then washed outside to remove all forms of dirt and grime from the surface including salt and grease. Once it is transferred inside to our expansive workshop area it is dried off. The next phase is getting it chipped to remove all excess rust and then shot blasted internally and externally. When the shotblasting process is completed it is inspected and striker plates are skilfully welded onto the sides by one of our qualified welding team. Any pipe repairs are also carried out by our engineers.
The external painting process starts with stripe coating all inaccessible areas then it is primed, baked, inspected and top coated. Internally it is patch painted where required with two coats of glass flake epoxy. Once this has been completed the mandatory decals will be fitted and the bogies, complete with new springs and bushes if required, are reattached to the underside of the vehicle.
